Day 3

Overwatch, a couple of years ago.

Nothing seemed too different, as I looked down upon the city from one of the towers. Rick and Romero had told me this story many times. Romero had broken into the prison to rescue his zombie pals. Little did he know that they were being used for XP training, so that the guards could handle a gang of Griefers.

It was probably Romero’s best mission. Weeks of planning, and he managed to break into one of the most secure places in all of Minecraft. I had to hand it to him that he was a veritable genius. Still, I could compliment him later. That is, if I managed to save the day. Otherwise, he probably would not even exist in my future.

I spent a few minutes observing the castle walls, eventually spotting my zombie friend scaling the walls with his grappling hook. He had just distracted the guards with one of his miniature explosives, and was on his way to freeing the zombies from the cells. Again, I felt the urge to change the future. To tell him that his plan was not a good one. Nevertheless, I had to keep things as they were, else some real problems could start appearing. Besides, he was not going to believe me.

Therefore, I followed him. I slipped in through the gates as the guards came out to investigate the explosion, then ascended the tower steps and made my way to the prison. I kept to the shadows, avoiding any soldiers which passed my route, and eventually I found myself in the prison tower.

This is where things got a little fuzzy, but I’m still sure I remember what was going to happen. Romero would free the zombies, only for Rick to show up. Rick would be caught by the zombie hordes, and Romero would make his way to the roof, where he’d get captured after getting stuck behind a door. Perfect.

And so I watched the situation unfold. Romero unlocked the cell door by destroying it with explosives, and then explained to the zombies in the simplest way possible that they should leave and go scare some humans.

“You are free. Go and scare some humans or something.”

“YOU, STOP!”

Here was Rick, along with his men. I’m pretty sure under their helmets; I could recognize Jackson and Percy. Their weapons were drawn and they were ready for a fight. Lucky for them, considering all the zombies were now lurching towards them. Romero gave a bow and took flight, leaving them to do battle with the undead.

This was all going smoothly. Just what was the problem?

Something did not seem right. I decided to beat Romero to his destination: the top of the tower. Climbing the side of the tower with magic, I was able to beat him there. This was the place Romero would be caught in a few seconds. The perfect place for Herobrine to interfere. But then, where was he?

My gaze rested on the iron door.

With a careful hand, I tested it.
